So recently I posted an ad of a new lash set I created that I was very proud of. They looked extremely natural and professional. I was extremely proud of my work and figured they would be a terrific way of bringing in new clients. So I created a Facebook post and sent it into the world.
Yet what I received back was full of rejection, laughing emojis, and just plain rude behavior from random people. People that if you looked on their profile pictures they would have lashes to their eyebrows, or filters on their faces, or their page was just full of ugly- not physical ugly just hateful ugly. People asking me if my ad was a joke, saying my client looked like she was in pain, one even shared my post and wrote in the headline 'Yikes'. Eventually it got so upsetting that I just took the ad down.
A month or so later I am talking to the client that modeled for the ad. She then brings up that the lady who takes care of her eyebrows complimented my lash work saying how natural and well done they were, being one of the best sets she has seen professionally. Imagine my surprise receiving this recognition after being publicly ridiculed by the general population of Facebook know it alls. This lifted my heart so much. Not only did she feel the need to let my client know what a fantastic job I did, she wanted to get my info to pass along for referrals. Which in my industry is huge! Girls in my line of work tend to be very greedy about clients and it is really hard to get referrals. But here, my work was speaking volumes about me and impressing people whom I do not know. I might still be in awe.
Little did I know my clients are still out there discussing me with even doctors and nurses who do things above my paygrade and licensing.
I found out a few days after this conversation that a client of mine was talking to a medical professional about getting a procedure done and they mentioned her skin care routine. My client then informed them that they usually get chemical peel treatments from me however, due to Oklahoma's drier winter months effecting the clients skin that she would be unable to receive any more chemical peels until probably March, we could do other things but to make sure she's not over processed and possibly burned too severely I wouldn't perform one on her. In the beginning of hearing me say this to my client she of course wasn't excited because that's not what she wanted, however she trusted me.
After talking to her medical professional this professional was taken aback and told my client to definitely listen to her esthetician because you don't find many that will take care of you that way. Apparently I'm a special kind of person. Which is saddening that when you think about people in this industry whom you're supposed to be able to trust with your face, they will absolutely just take your money if you're willing to pay for it.
How are we supposed to figure out which peoples hearts are in it and which peoples pockets are there for it?
Find the esthetician that isn't afraid to tell you NO. The person that, when you pull the most expensive product off the shelf ask them if that is good for your skin they will look you point blank and tell you the truth if it is not, and won't let you buy it. The one that's not afraid of telling you we might have to try a couple of options so don't buy the big bottle first. The one that when you are asking about lash extensions they will honestly tell you to practice sleeping on your back, not touching your eyes or to practice wearing a eye mask at bed time for a week or two before putting a new set on.
Find the esthetician that cares about her reputation with the people that matter of how much money she makes. She may not drive the AUDI but she will treat you like a friend and she will care and at the end of the day, if you need help she's the who has your back.
That's the person you want to do business with.
My goal for 2023 is to start finding more like minded entrepreneurs that want to come together and grow a one of a kind spa. One that cares. One that doesn't just sell you on services, products or hopes and dreams. A business that when you invest into it you're investing into some one's future as well as you're own. As a client you are wanting to be educated on your needs while being treated with respect. My goal is to have a place with people I can trust to do that for all clients.
My word for 2023 is GROWTH.
